From The Hand of Fr. Aaron Ferris For January 27, 2019

Recently I have had several conversations regarding Lent and Easter. Ash Wednesday is late this year (March 6th, but we are already planning for it. This is nothing compared to some people I know. One of my brother priests is already getting coverage for December so he can take some time off after the Christmas rush. If only I was that prepared …

I think we can still call this the beginning of the year (we are still in January), so it might be worthwhile to consider how the rest of the year is going to go. Lent is coming up in a few weeks; what do we as individuals and as families want to do for Lent? There are Holy days throughout the year; we could mark them off on the calendar so they are special days when they arrive. Friends and family might be celebrating important events like a First Communion or Confirmation. Many things are coming up in all our lives that we should be getting ready for.

I know I already have in my calendar the date for Priesthood Ordinations (June) and the Fall Convocation for Priests (September). These are important events in the life of the diocese and with my brother priests. I generally don’t like looking that far ahead, but these events, and the people, matter enough to me that I will make sure they are in my calendar. I too should be taking some time to think about what else is important this year that I will need to make extra time for. Time seems to pass more quickly each year, so I better start now.
