From The Hand of Fr. Aaron Ferris For March 10, 2019

It is time again for the annual Catholic Services Appeal (CSA). This is the annual collection that supports the work of the diocese across our eleven counties. Please be as generous as possible.

The work of the diocese is often hidden, but many necessary things are done. A large portion of the CSA dollars goes to funding seminarian education and formation. As a smaller parish we generally have little contact with seminarians, but priests had to start somewhere. The diocese also does a great deal of charity and service through the Catholic Charities office. We don’t always see these things, but those who receive the help know it.

Some of you know the work of the diocese that comes through the Tribunal. This is where individuals end up when they are seeking an annulment of a marriage. Even if you haven’t been through this, you probably do know someone who has. The diocese also has various responsibilities with all the various Catholic schools. This alone is a huge effort on behalf of our children across the eleven counties.

The diocese also provides many other services. They provide guidance for parish administration, which is good because most priests start with no clue about running a business or having employees. We need all the help we can get. On the more religious side, the diocese also provides sacraments and spiritual opportunities, such as gathering the parishes for Confirmation at the cathedral.

We may not always see the fruit of our generosity, but there is good fruit. Many people are able to support their families and build their communities because the money you give pays their wages and enables them to do the good work that they do. Please prayerfully consider how you can support all that we are doing together as a diocese. Stretch your generous spirit so that the diocese can continue to serve all of us.
